THE SEVEN PRINCIPLES OF THE CONSTITUTION

POPULAR SOVEREIGNTY

Power of government based on the consent of the people!

REPUBLICANISM

Elected representatives based on the consent of the governed!

LIMITED GOVERNMENT

Government that is NOT all powerful Government that is NOT all powerful. Limited by those powers given to it by the people.

FEDERALISM

Power is divided between the national and state governments.

SEPARATION OF POWERS

Division of the national government into three branches: the legislative, executive, and judicial.

CHECKS AND BALANCES

The three branches have the power to check the other branches activities to prevent the abuse of powers!

INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS

Rights the government is obligated to protect Rights the government is obligated to protect! Found in various amendments in the Bill of Rights.
