Caspian Sea or lake ???

Geopolitics Geopolitics is the study of the relationship among politics and geography, demography (population), and economics, especially with respect to the foreign policy of a nation.

Lakes Seas Enclosed by land More shallow than open seas Meet open ocean water Continuous body of salt water Deeper than lakes

Caspian Sea Largest enclosed body of water in the world Fed by the Volga river Can connect to black Sea, Baltic sea, and sea of Azov via canals Supplied by freshwater sources only No direct connection to saltwater seas

What’s the Issue? IF the Caspian Sea is a lake: All resources are evenly divided between bordering nations Resources are NOT influenced by international law No interference from the United Nations A treaty between the former soviet union and Iran classify the Caspian sea as a lake If the Caspian sea is a sea: Resources are regulated by the United Nations Convention on the Seas and resources are divided based upon shoreline Each nation would have access to the resources located only within it’s borders
