Introduction of Kitui County 6th largest in Kenya Area= 30462 km^2 Population =1,012,736 (2009 census) Projected by 2017 at 1,149,332

Introduction of Kitui County Arid and semi-arid region with erratic and unreliable rainfall The county is faced with cyclical hydrological and agricultural drought, hence food and water insecure The increasing population projected at 2.1% p.a implies increased demand for the multiple uses of the available water resources The limited water resources invoke a programmatic approach to address the challenge

2. County Programs Integration of Roads for Water Program with other county programs Training of County staff in the selected sub-counties (Kitui Rural and Kitui Central) Sensitization of farmers on the opportunities in roads for Water

2. County Programs Roads Water Agriculture 2016/17 FY: Grading of 3000 km of roads;1250 km already done (county has 8 graders operating in different areas of the expansive county. 132 road-drifts being constructed; most complete. Water 2400 Sand Dams to be constructed in the County Agriculture On-farm ponds as means of enhancing small scale irrigation
