Welcome to the Rye Carnival

Rye Carnival This a fictional layout based on the annual traveling carnival that operates on the Rye foreshore during Christmas each year.

Rye Carnival The rides modelled on this layout depict a selection of the rides that have actually appeared at the Rye Carnival.

Rye Carnival For the past 50 plus years the Rye carnival has been operated by Wittingslow Amusements the oldest amusement company in Victoria.

Now if you adhere to the warning sign Rye Carnival Now if you adhere to the warning sign We can begin the ride!

Rye Carnival The Breakdance by Huss was first manufactured in 1985. The ride was an instant success worldwide, and is now HUSS's most produced creation with over 110 distributed world wide - appealing immensely to riders of all ages.

Rye Carnival The ride was based heavily off the older Schwartzkopf Calypso. Underneath all the scaffolding, the basic mechanics of the ride are very similar to a Sizzler - however, Huss added the following…

Rye Carnival a slight incline of 7.5o to the whole ride structure. multi-directional, variable speed hydraulic drives. ingenious "..obliquely mounted" 360o gondola swivels. ....resulting in a whole new ride.

Rye Carnival This gives a very enjoyable, fast-paced motion resembling movements experienced on a Scrambler / Sizzler / Cha Cha, but is far better thanks to the incline of both the main hub, and the gondola joints. This combined with variable drive speeds, creates an infinite possibility of random movement patterns.

Rye Carnival Despite the large size of the ride (20m x 20m), it can be racked on 2 x 40ft trailers. As a result of the Breakdance's huge success worldwide, HUSS now manufactures 3 versions of the ride:

Rye Carnival The standard 16 gondola, 36 seater (adults), with backdrop and incline of 7.5o The Breakdance 2 - with 24 gondolas, seating 48 adults, with backdrop and incline. The Breakdance 3 - 16 gondola, 36 seater, no backdrop or central incline. ie. More compact.

Rye Carnival There are currently 4 Breakdance's in Australia, three travelling road models and the other at Sydney's Luna Park.

Rye Carnival The Rainbow (HUSS) was first manufactured in 1983, containing many design elements of the Ranger (HUSS 1981). The ride concept of the Rainbow was quickly copied by various other ride manufacturers, failing to match the size and overall quality of the ride. eg. A.R.M's Ali-baba.

Rye Carnival This ride really has to be seen in motion to be appreciated. It's typically HUSS - offering riders unbeatable smoothness (hydraulically driven), and spectators a graceful, well-lit, perfectly themed picture. It's amazing height of 66ft dominates the set-up of any carnival.

Rye Carnival The Rainbow appeals to riders of all ages, offering a basic orbiting sensation, with alternating movements of varying speed, both clockwise and anti-clockwise. Generally speaking, the ride sensation is nothing too major, with basic side-to-side motions, and slight weightlessness sensations. - thus the reason for it's wide appeal amongst both the young and old. …even your great-grandma'd enjoy this one.

There is one Rainbow travelling Australia (3 trailers) Rye Carnival There is one Rainbow travelling Australia (3 trailers) This picture shows the Rainbow’s lower arm with HUSS’s patented “parallel conduct system”, keeping the gondola upright at all times

Rye Carnival An official patent diagram of the Rainbow's parallel conduct system, with the chain moving in accordance with the boom, ensuring the gondola remains fixed in a horizontal position. Incidentally, Chance's Falling Star uses this chain system (which can be seen through a small maintenance window in both booms). Another alternative to this chain type system would be some kind of crank shaft. (this system can be seen outside the boom on A.R.M's Ali-baba).
