TESTING RULES & STRATEGIES YOU HAVE 30 MINUTES TO COMPLETE NOT COUNTING SET UP OF SUPPLIES MAKE SURE ALL SUPPLIES ARE HANDY BEFORE YOU BEGIN. CHECK BEDSIDE STANDS FIVE SKILLS TESTED (5 Possible combinations) One WILL BE HANDWASHING One WILL BE A MEASUREMENT SKILL (Measure Urine, Pulse, Respirations, Weight) SAY YOU WOULD WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE RECORDING MEASUREMENT SKILLS

TESTING RULES & STRATEGIES CONSIDER EACH SKILL A NEW CONTACT-BUT DO NOT HAVE TO RE-INTRODUCE SELF NOT NECESSARY TO WEAR GLOVES WHEN DOING OCCUPIED BED CHANGE AMBULATION IS DONE WITH A GAIT BELT-A WALKER IS NOT USED-TRANSFER IS CONSIDERED A SEPARATE SKILL FOOT CARE DONE WHILE PERSON SITTING-BASIN IS PUT ON FLOOR ON A BARRIER SAFE & COMFORTABLE MEANS BACK IN BED

TESTING RULES & STRATEGIES BED WHEELS NEED TO BE LOCKED SIDE RAILS MUST BE USED IF BED IN HIGH POSITION OR IF PT ROLLING TO SIDE IF YOU CATCH A MISTAKE-TELL EVALUATOR AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO RESTART IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO USE EQUIPMENT-OK TO ASK EVALUATOR HOLD AND SUPPORT TUBE AT ALL TIMES FOR CATH CARE

TESTING RULES & STRATEGIES IF PULSE IS VERY FAST SAY “I THINK AN RN IS NEEDED TO TAKE THIS PULSE” ASK EVALUATOR IF YOU CAN DESIGNATE A START AND STOP TIME ON THE CLOCK. YOU MUST STILL SAY “START” AND “STOP” AT THE DESIGNATED TIME USE FOUR-FOLD WASH CLOTH. YOU MUST RINSE & DRY. NEED PAD/TOWEL UNDER THE BUTT MALE PERI CARE IS NOT TESTED

Hand Washing done at start Must remove gown, then dress Begin with affected side Always work from your dominant side Dressing Skill Do not touch side rail with gloves on Use Barriers Avoid Cross Contamination Wet hands, apply soap, scrub for 20 seconds, then rinse After that, say you would wash hands Hand Washing done at start

MOUTH CARE FEEDING TRANSFER Head of bed up, Need gloves, Towel at neck, brush tongue MOUTH CARE Wash yours & patients hands before-face & hands after Check meal card & Sit at eye level FEEDING Proper chair & belt placement, Bed & W/C locked TRANSFER

ROM BEDPAN PPE Support extremity Don’t rush or over-expose Know your moves ROM Lift butt rather than role to side Only tested on regular bedpan HOB^ after placement-no need to raise bed for body mechanics Wash yours and patients hands Dump urine and rinse only in toilet BEDPAN Practice skill as you may not have done it in clinical Gown and glove only PPE

SIDE-LYING WEIGHT NAIL CARE Does not include clipping Check body mechanics and proper pillow placement SIDE-LYING Must zero scale Must assist the person on to the scale Shoes are worn WEIGHT Does not include clipping You must wear gloves NAIL CARE
