Curves in Perspectives A room view has been drawn as a Two-point Perspective view. The room has a bookcase and a desk shown in position. Draw the circular rug in place on the perspective view. VP1 VP1 GL PP SP
Dividing Circle Start by dividing the circle for the rug into 12 separate parts. Try, where possible, to make sure that when this is done it lines up with the angle of the edge of the room – in this case 45o. VP1 VP1 GL PP SP
Finding Point 1 For each point it will be necessary to find a new height line. The rug sits on the ground so no height is required, but the position of the line is important. Project each point to the PP and then up to the ground line. Although VP1 is being used it is possible to use either of the VP’s VP1 VP1 GL PP Project a line from VP1 through the newly found height line. Project a line from the SP through the required point on the rug to the PP and then vertically to cut the line from VP1. Mark where the two projected lines cross with a small dot. SP
Points 2 + 3 If you have successfully managed to line up the divisions of the circle with the projection angle you should be able to find two points at the same time now. Project through the next pair of points to find the new height line. Repeat the process of projecting through this new height line point from VP1 and through the circle points from the SP to find two new points. Mark the new points with a small dot. VP1 VP1 GL PP SP
Points 4 + 5 Continue this process for each of the points on the circle. Find the height line Project from VP1 Project from SP Mark found point with small dot VP1 VP1 GL PP SP
Points 6 + 7 VP1 VP1 GL PP SP
Points 8 + 9 VP1 VP1 GL PP SP
Points 10 + 11 VP1 VP1 GL PP SP

Drawing Curve To finish the rug lightly draw a smooth curve through each of the points found. If this looks correct darken the outline to complete the drawing. VP1 VP1 GL PP SP
Final Drawing The final drawing should look like this.
