Top 5 Tips for Splitting Your Expenses with Your Partner

Balance on spending money with your partner is a necessary part of your relationship. Finances should be the main priority, especially at the beginning of the relationship. Here are the top 5 rules for splitting expenses with your partner.

Keep Everything Separate: If you are an unmarried couple then you need to keep your expenses separate to run your relationship smoothly. 1

Use the tactic “whoever earns the most, pays the most”: If your partner is earning more than you then you can ask him to pay more. Ask your partner to support you. 2

Don’t Share Assets: The assets include cars, property, furniture, and funds in bank accounts. If you are getting married, avoid sharing them from the start. 3

Keep Backup Plans: Always keep backup plans for the unexpected happenings like illness, job loss to run your daily life without and financial stress. 4

Avoid Sharing Your Loans or Debts: Similar to assets, avoid sharing your loans or debts with your partner. Be positive that if the worst happened, you'd still be able to cover the necessary costs. 5
