Notes for ID Gun F-15 MLG inner cylinder B-1 MLG outer cylinder Both are overhauled very frequently in our shop and we have to chrome plate internal surfaces on both. The AF currently has only one option to coat these areas and that is with chrome plating. The ID HVOF gun will give the AF the option to deposit other materials that are environmentally friendly and more importantly, they outperform chrome. ID Gun is applicable for many parts, F-15 & B-1 are just examples of high volume work. 12

Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) A combined design and production approval for modification and replacement parts. It allows a manufacturer to produce and sell these parts for installation on type certificated products. The F-16 program approves materials, processes, appliances and other parts by other means like a Technical Standards Order (TSO) or in conjunction with a type certificate. Order prescribes the approval procedures for FAA personnel and guides applicants in the approval process. The design approval phase of PMA certifies that a replacement or modification part complies with the airworthiness standards of eligible products (aircraft, engine or propeller). 15
