Outline Creates a link identifier to allow hosts to quickly recognise link changes New LinkID ND option for router advertisements Routers on a link negotiate a consistent LinkID using Router-to-Router messages from DetFastRA

Main Changes from Version –02 http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/dna/draft-pentland-mobileip-linkid-03-from-2.diff.html Stable storage for Link Identifiers Monitor RAs to detect link joins and initiate LinkID change

Running Code GD implemented router part as patches to radvd Implemented alongside deterministic FastRA Shares router-to-router messaging and state machine No SEND (yet)

LinkID Type Currently 48 bit random number Alternatives: Longer random number Address Prefix

48 Bit Random Identifier Pros: Very simple Fits in a minimally sized 64-bit RA option Cons: Not globally unique High probability that there will be pairs of networks somewhere that use the same LinkID Requires “good” random numbers which be scarce

64-bit Prefix Based Identifier Pros: Can be globally unique Cons: Requires 128-bit RA option Need to ensure that prefix used as LinkID is still valid on the link May not be any global prefixes available – unique local prefixes?
