Psalms 51

Introduction How does my sin affect me? Does it bother me when I sin? Do I lose sleep when I sin? Do I feel like I’ve lost anything when I sin? How do I react when confronted with my sin? How serious do I take sin? The answers to these questions are an indication of how close my relationship is with God!

David’s Sin with Bathsheba II Samuel 11 – 12 David saw a woman bathing (II Sam. 11:2) David inquired about the woman (3) David sent messengers to get her (4) David laid with her (4) Bathsheba conceived and sent word to David (5)

David’s Sin with Bathsheba Tried to Hide Sin David sent for Uriah the Hittite (Bathsheba’s husband) (II Sam. 11:6) Uriah was one of David’s mighty men (II Sam. 23:8, 39) David sent Uriah to his home – but he wouldn’t go (11) David got Uriah drunk – but Uriah still didn’t go home (13) David had Uriah murdered and sent the orders by Uriah himself! (14-17) David sent for Bathsheba and married her (27) Bathsheba bore a son (27)

David’s Sin with Bathsheba Confronted with his sin God sent Nathan to David (II Sam. 12:1) Nathan told David the story about the man and his lamb (1-4) David was very angry someone would do such a thing (5-6) Nathan told David “You are the man!” (7) David told Nathan “I have sinned against the Lord” (13)
