Warm Up Josh’s class is 95 m away. If he runs at 1.2 m/s, how long will it take him? If the bell is going to ring in 120 seconds, will he make it on time? If Josh runs the first 50 m at 1.2 m/s, then slows to 0.9 m/s for the remaining 45 m, will he make it in 120 seconds?

What are kinematic equations? “Kine-” = motion Kinesiology: the science of Human movement Kinesthesiology: Medical study of the movement of muscles Kinematics: the study of motion and movement Set of 4 equations that give us a fuller picture of an object’s motion because they connect distance, velocity, acceleration, and time Can be used to predict unknown information about an object’s motion

When do we use the kinematic equations? The kinematic equations are used in situations of CONSTANT or UNIFORM acceleration

How do we use the kinematic equations? This is where the GUESS method will become your best friend…

WHAT ARE THEY?? d = vit + ½ at2 vf = vi + at d = (vi + vf) 2 t Displacement = d Initial velocity = vi or vo Final velocity = vf Time = t Acceleration = a vf = vi + at d = (vi + vf) 2 t vf2 = vi2 + 2ad

Picking the Right Equation: Ima Hurryin is approaching a stoplight moving with a velocity of +30.0 m/s. The light turns yellow, and Ima applies the brakes and skids to a stop. If Ima's acceleration is -8.00 m/s2, then determine the displacement of the car during the skidding process.

All Together: Ben Rushin is waiting at a stoplight. When it finally turns green, Ben accelerated from rest at a rate of a 6.00 m/s2 for a time of 4.10 seconds. Determine the displacement of Ben's car during this time period.

Exit Question A feather is dropped on the moon from a height of 1.40 m. The acceleration of gravity on the moon is 1.67m/s2. Determine the time for feather fall to the surface of the moon. HW: 15 questions, including what you did today RC Car Lab Due Today!!
