Section 6.2 factoring trinomials

Factoring Trinomial of the form ax2 + bx + c This is the REVERSE of FOIL 1. Divide out a GCF if possible. 2. List the factor pairs of ax2. 3. List the factor pairs of c. 4. Select one pair from each list and plug into 2 binomials. 5. Check the “OI” of FOIL to match the middle term, bx 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as needed.

Factor each polynomial 1. x2 – x – 42 2. x3 + 4x2y - 21xy2 3. 6x2 - 19x + 10

Factor some more! 4. 4m2 + 15m + 6 5. 3r2 + 8rv + 5v2 6. 5x2 + 26x - 24

Factor… maybe use u-sub? 7. 12r6 - 19r3 + 5 8. 2(m – 3)2 + 7(m – 3) + 6 9. 8(x + 1)2 + 6(x + 1) – 9
