Message By Pastor.Johnson Raju DISCIPLING Message By Pastor.Johnson Raju

(The Cost of Discipleship, 43-44) - Communion without confession. - Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, - grace without the cross, - grace without Jesus Christ.

WHY DON’T WE DISCIPLE? Reason No. 1: BECAUSE WE PREACH CHEAP GRACE. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pastor and theologian. He defined cheap grace like this: Cheap grace is the preaching of - forgiveness without requiring repentance, - baptism without church discipline. (The Cost of Discipleship, 43-44)

A complete Gospel of Jesus Christ goes beyond forgiveness of sin. Why?

GREAT COMMISSION…. IN Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and said to them,”All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Mark 8:34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me

The gospel is not conditional (“If you obey me, I will love you”). But neither is it unconditional (“I love you regardless of whether you obey me.”). The gospel is contra-conditional (“I love you even though you haven’t obeyed me, because my Son did.”). SO… the obedience of the Son on our behalf moves us to love and obey. John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”.

Our Churches are Seeker-sensitive, but Believer-insensitive. Reason No.2. Our Churches are Seeker-sensitive, but Believer-insensitive. Willow Creek Church in Chicago pioneered seeker-sensitive services. After 30 years…. They did 4 years survey that made them to make a huge shift from seeker-sensitive service to Believer-sensitive Church. http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2008/june/5.13.html

…though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. (Heb 5:12-14)

Services must be sensitive to seekers. But focus should be on MAKING DISCIPLES.

Disciple-Making Churches. Bible Churches Vs. Disciple-Making Churches.

Reason- 3: Wrong understanding of BEING DISCIPLE. Becoming and being disciple does not linger and stop at Baptism and Church going. Acquiring Bible knowledge. Learning doctrines. At preaching captivating sermon. And so on.

Becoming like Jesus…. Jesus said… - follow me. - You also do like-wise.

It must be be taught and shown (modeled). Why….. - Pattern of the world is different, - Belief system of this world is different - The values of the world is different. Read John 17.
