Presentation transcript:

Valentine If you love someone, what is an ideal gift to get them? Why? Challenge: what does it represent
about your love for them?

How would you feel if someone got you an onion? BUT... how does removing an onion's skin link to love? what can onions make you do? what's unique about the inside of an onion? How does
this link to love? it's cheap, but why does can still be valued?

Do you believe Valentine's Day is: about expressing heartfelt love for someone you care
deeply for? a materialistic, business-led conning trick designed to
get us to spend money to prove our love?

Valentine hhhhhh I give you an onion. Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips, possessive and faithful as we are, for as long as we are. Take it. Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding ring, if you like. Lethal. Its scent will cling to your fingers, cling to your knife. Not a red rose or a satin heart. I give you an onion. It is a moon wrapped in brown paper. It promises light like the careful undressing of love. Here. It will blind you with tears like a lover. It will make your reflection a wobbling photo of grief. I am trying to be truthful. Not a cute card or a kissogram. = images you need to
analyse Your first tasks are to
analyse the green and red
areas before we discuss
them as a class. = repeated, but why? = direct instructions. Why?

Valentine k are these normal gifts? Why? Not a red rose or a satin heart. I give you an onion. It is a moon wrapped in brown paper. It promises light like the careful undressing of love. Here. It will blind you with tears like a lover. It will make your reflection a wobbling photo of grief. I am trying to be truthful. Not a cute card or a kissogram. what does the onion represent? moons are a romantic image, but why the cheap brown
paper? how can light link to love? k why 'undress' the onion? why is it 'careful'? what are we blind to? why mention tears
when the subject is love? why does it wobble? why mention
grief/pain? why 'trying'? what are they wanting to be
truthful about? what sort of images do cards/kissograms
normally present? ALL of your notes must link back the key yellow images to love, lovers, romantics or relationships - the whole poem is an
extended metaphor.

Valentine I give you an onion. why do they repeat themselves? Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips, possessive and faithful as we are, for as long as we are. Take it. Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding ring, if you like. Lethal. Its scent will cling to your fingers, cling to your knife. why do they repeat themselves? are kisses normally fierce? why does it 'stay'
on the lips? what's the difference between a 'possessive' love
and a 'faithful' one? Use a dictionary if needed. why repeat the we? why talk about as 'long as we are'? why compare the inside of the onion to a
wedding ring? why use 'platinum'? why is it 'lethal'? how does this link to
love? why does it 'cling'? to what? why mention a knife at the end? what
does it say about the relationship? make
links to the onion and to love. ALL of your notes must link back the key yellow images to love, lovers, romantics or relationships - the whole poem is an
extended metaphor.
