Beam instrumentation for the upcoming TIDVG#5 Specs/Simulation Present situation (LSS1) New instrumentation setup ‘on’ TIDVG#5 Todo (if BTV choice) Budget estimate (if BTV choice) Thanks for the inputs: F.Velotti, M.Calviano, A.P.Marcone S.Burger 2017_06_15

Simulations in LSS5 Beam dilution on the dump (simulations given by F.Velloti) → Diluted beam spot H ~ 50mm V ~ 25mm Screen size (beam ‘envelop’) H ~ 150mm V ~ 80mm → Number of particles per dump up to 8E13p Number of particles seen per year up 5.88E18p Worst case: no H & V sweeping Beam spot a few mm2 with 8E13p

Present TIDVG and associated instrumentation in LSS1 Instrumentation BSG 11879 (H+V)

TIDVG and proposed instrumentation in LSS5 Specs so far: ‘need to know where the beam is impinging on the dump’ 1 Replace BSGH & V 11892 by a screen ? + New screen inside the dump shielding, in front of the graphite block 2 2 2 1 1

BTV description In our case: A fixed screen Viewport which can not be put inside the shielding Illumination system which can not be put inside the shielding

Design principle Circulating beam Dumped beam ~2m

System rad hard needed: Design System rad hard needed: Camera Vidicon tube based (or future replacement) or Optical line (in contact with H.Vincke for environment study) with more ‘standard’ camera Screen Fixed Good light emission efficiency (to compensate for low sensitivity of rad hard detector and optical line) → Scintillation material (exclude OTR) Robust to survive 5.88E18 x X years (?) → Chromox type screen (check numbers) mirror Check how it would degrade with beam going through over time… → Could it be installed below the screen (?) Illumination system Need a light for each screen for calibration purpose and optics check → integration issue: - no access close to the screen - test light through the mirror - need replacement every year (as for AD target for example) Backscattering effect seen as background noise if camera to close → delay the acquisition → move the camera

Todo Need to check: - RP values around the dump for camera and optical line option - screen robustness for such application - light and optics through mirror(s) ~3m away from the viewport  OK with a camera lens with 100mm < Focal Lens > 150mm Budget (only estimate as we have to confirm many of the points) New tank with fixed screen and mirror support(s) Design 15-20KCHF Fab. 10-15KCHF Screens 2x5 KCHF Camera 8 KCHF Optical line* 2x 5 to 20KCHF Cabling to BA5 20KCHF Electronics 10KCHF 83KCHF < TOTAL < 123KCHF * If needed with fuse silicate material
