The Type of Person God Uses Luke 1:26-55 07/13/2008 Dr. Dane Boyles

The Type of Person God Uses Introduction The Bibles says, “God is looking for people to use.” My message to you this morning is, “You’re wrong. Not only can God use you, but He wants to use you. He’s waiting.

The Type of Person God Uses He’s eager to use you in ways you haven’t even imagined.” This morning, as an example, I want us to look at Mary (Luke 1:26-38).

The Type of Person God Uses GOD USES PEOPLE WHO DESIRE TO DO HIS WILL. You’ve got to want to do His will, more than anything else. 26 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, (Luke 1:26)

The Type of Person God Uses 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:27-28)

The Type of Person God Uses 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. (Luke 1:29-30)

The Type of Person God Uses 31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, (Luke 1:31-32)

The Type of Person God Uses 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” 34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1:33-34)

The Type of Person God Uses 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:35)

The Type of Person God Uses 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. (Luke 1:36)

The Type of Person God Uses 37 For nothing is impossible with God.” 38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her. (Luke 1:37-38)

The Type of Person God Uses GOD USES PEOPLE WHO DESIRE TO DO HIS WILL (1:46-48). You’ve got to want to do His will, more than anything else.

The Type of Person God Uses Why did God choose to come as a baby? He did it so He could relate to us and we could relate to Him Mary did not decline God’s will, she wanted it. 46 “My soul glorifies the Lord” (Luke 1:46)

The Type of Person God Uses GOD USES PEOPLE WHO DECIDE TO PAY THE COST. There is always a cost in following God’s plan for your life. Mary decided she desired God’s will more than anything.

The Type of Person God Uses 38“Mary said, ‘I am the Lord’s servant, and I am willing to do whatever He wants. May everything you said come true.” (Luke 1:38) It cost her was her reputation. It cost her was her comfort.

The Type of Person God Uses 23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. (Luke 9:23)

The Type of Person God Uses 7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. (Phil 3:7, NIV)

The Type of Person God Uses GOD USES PEOPLE WHO DARE TO TRUST HIS PROMISES. People of faith have courage. 34 “Mary asked the angel ‘But how can I have a baby? I am a virgin.’ (Luke 1:34)

The Type of Person God Uses 35 The angel replied, ‘The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of God shall overshadow you. 37 For every promise from God shall surely come true.’” (Luke 1:35, 37)

The Type of Person God Uses Mary had reason to be worried. “What is impossible for men is possible for God.”

The Type of Person God Uses Conclusion If God can take a teenage girl, a poor peasant teenager, with no education and choose her to be the mother of Jesus Christ, don’t you think your excuse is pretty puny for why you’re not letting God have all your life?
