Why learn how to take notes? Note taking helps you remember what is said in class. A good set of notes can help you work on assignments and prepare for tests outside of the classroom. Good notes allow you to help each other problem solve.

About Cornell Notes . . . Developed in 1949 at Cornell University by Walter Pauk. Meant to be easily used as a test study guide. Adopted by most major law schools as the preferred note taking method.

STARS: Set up your paper Draw a vertical line from top to bottom that is a few inches from the left margin. Draw a horizontal line just below the top. Leaving about a third of the page from the bottom, draw a horizontal line.

STARS: Study your notes! Study Step 1 Read the Summary first, to trigger long- term memory of the content of the Cornell Notes.

STARS: Study your notes! Study Step 2 Fold Cornell Note along vertical line separating Main Ideas/ Questions from Notes. Reread information you highlighted or underlined, then the rest of the notes.

STARS: Study your notes! Study Step 3 With the paper folded, read your questions and main ideas. See if you can answer the questions or know the main ideas. Repeat as often as necessary!

Cornell Notes Family Feud One hand on the table, the other behind your back. First to ring the bell answers the question. If one side gets it wrong, the other side may answer. If both get it wrong, no points.
