Team Feasibility Project Best value sweet tea for your dollar in Denton By Immanuel Osuji Kyle Patterson Brandon Shull Magdalena

Restaurants Chicken Express Chick-Fil-A Golden Chick Rudy’s Taco Casa

Criteria We had 5 criteria for judging the sweet tea and they were: Distance from Campus Evaluation Price Evaluation Sugar Content Level Preference Test Taste test

Distance from Campus Evaluation We compared brands using their distance to the university. We used the individual restaurants in each chain closes to campus. We ranked tea highly based on which brand a student would travel the least distance to purchase. Tea Chicken Express Chick-Fil-A Golden Chick Taco Casa Rudy’s Distance from Campus (mi.) 0.6 2.2 1.9 2.5 2.8

Distance Evaluation Results and Rankings

Price Evaluation We researched the dollar amount of tea per gallon. We ranked the tea based on which was the cheapest. We ignored extraneous costs such as gas necessary to travel to these restaurants. We ignored any lowered prices associated with multi-purchase deals. Tea Chicken Express Chick-Fil-A Golden Chick Taco Casa Rudy’s Price ($) 3.46 5.25 3.32 3.97 7.04

Price Evaluation Results and Rankings

Sugar Content Evaluation We researched the sugar content in grams of a 16oz serving of each tea. We used 16oz as the standard amount a consumer would consume at a time. We awarded the teas ranking based on which one has the least amount of sugar. A higher sugar content is associated with a negative health effects and a less desirable taste. Tea Chicken Express Chick-Fil-A Golden Chick Taco Casa Rudy’s Sugar (g) 48 50 45 40 38

Sugar Content Evaluation Results and Rankings

Preference Test We conducted a survey of 30 people, in which we asked the participants to sample each tea without knowing which restaurant they were from. We then asked them to rank them from 1 to 5, 1 being the worst tasting tea and 5 being the best. We tallied the rankings from each participant, and ranked them based on which tea was assessed as each value the most often. We did this in order to see which brand of sweet tea was preferred over all of the others. Tea Chicken Express Chick-Fil-A Golden Chick Taco Casa Rudy’s Preference Test 5 3 4 1 2

Preference Test Results and Rankings

Taste Test After taking the preference test, the participants were asked to rate each tea individually. We used a 1-5 scale, where 1 signifies bad quality tea and 5 signifies superior quality tea. We averaged the rankings for each brand to produce an overall score. We ranked them based on which of these average scores was the highest. We conducted this test to determine whether consumers like the flavor of the teas. Tea Chicken Express Chick-Fil-A Golden Chick Taco Casa Rudy’s Taste Test 3.7 3.8 3.3 1 2.9
