The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant

Key words nuclear power plant- АЭС an uncontrolled increase in power-неконтролируемый рост мощности Lead-привел Explosions-взрывы Amount-значительное Eject-выброшенные fission products-продукты деления Fuel-топливо post-разнесен Contamination-загрязнение Extinguishing-тушение Receive-получить Expose-подвергать Resettle-переселить

On the night of 26 April 1986 at the fourth reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) located on the territory of Ukraine (then the Ukrainian SSR) on the right Bank of the Pripyat river, 12 kilometers from the city of Chernobyl of Kiev region, was the largest in the history of the world nuclear power accident.

26 april to 01 hour 24 minutes an uncontrolled increase in power that led to explosions and destruction of a significant part of the reactor plant. Because of the reactor explosion and fire at unit in the environment were released large amount of radioactive substances.

Ejected from the destroyed reactor into the atmosphere fission products of nuclear fuel has been posted by the air in distant lands, led to their contamination not only within the borders of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, but also for hundreds and even thousands of kilometers away from the scene of the accident. Radioactive contaminated the territory of many countries.

After the disaster, 31 people died, and 600 thousand liquidators, who take part in extinguishing the fires and clearing the, received high doses of radiation. Were exposed to the radiation of nearly 8.4 million people in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia, of them were resettled nearly 404 thousand people.

My opinion I think that this catastrophe could have been prevented if not for negligence of people. If people were more careful there wouldn’t be so many casualties.
