MULTIPLICATION OF LARGE NUMBERS

How mathematics does give importance to the real world? ESSENTIAL QUESTION

How can you solve problems involving Multiplication? What are the rules of Multiplying with Zeroes in Both Factors? UNIT QUESTIONS How can you solve problems involving Multiplication? What are the rules of Multiplying with Zeroes in Both Factors?

CONTENT QUESTIONS What is multiplication is all about? What is the operation to be used? How to multiply with the large number?

Targeted Content Standards and Benchmarks multiply large numbers, multiply all digits in the multiplicand by each of the digits in the multiplier. Add the partial products to get the final product. To use properties of multiplication help us to compute faster. Regroup when the digits product is 10 or more. Multiply the digit in the next places, and then add the regrouped digit. To multiply by multiples of 10,100, and 1000, multiply the nonzero digits first. Then annex the zeroes to the product. Students objectives/learning outcomes Compare the number of 0s in the multiplier and the product Define the relation between the nonzero digits in both factors and non-zero digits in the product Illustrate each product. Then find each actual product.

Calendar of activities

Orientation and Introduction Orientation of scoring system Week 1 . Day 1 Orientation and Introduction Orientation of scoring system Orientation of rules and regulation inside the classroom Introduction of the topic which is the Multiplication of Large Numbers Giving an overview and some basic parts of multiplication.

Assign a topic to each group. Day 2 Give motivation to the students- to engage the topic to them. Video clip presentation Questioning – to develop their critical thinking and test their understanding about the video. Ask students what they observed in the video presented. What does the video all about? What does the purpose of presenting the video? How can you define the topic? Day 3 Divide the class into 4 groups to discuss the topics that will give to them. Assign a topic to each group. Properties of Multiplication and multiplying without grouping.( GROUP 1) Multiplying with regrouping and Multiply with Zeroes in Both Factors.(GROUP 2) Multiplying with Multiples of 10, 100 and 1000 and Estimating Products.(GROUP3) Mental Multiplication and Solving Problems Involving Multiplication.(GROUP 4) Brainstorming – to collaborate and sharing their ideas and thoughts about the topic assigned.

Day 4-5 The teacher explains the students on how to make PowerPoint presentation on their projects. They had to select a leader to lead the group while they working on their projects. Preparation of Power Point making. Teacher observes and gives some comments to the students.

Week 2 After they accomplished their projects, students should present their output within the class. The other students are allowed to raise their hand for the clarification and questions or the presenters can ask question to the other groups for interaction. The members of the group share on what their experienced and learning in making their project. At the end of the presentation, the group will prepare board work which is not recorded and interactive quiz which is recorded. The presentation is scheduled by the teacher.

Day 1 and 2: GROUP 1 Presents PowerPoint presentation Giving some examples Board work Interactive quiz   Day 3 and 4: GROUP 2 PowerPoint presentation Day 5 and week 3 day 1: GROUP 3 (Week 3) Day 2 and 3: GROUP 4 Power Point presentation interactive quiz

Day 4: Application- to determine if the students really understand the presentation. board work oral participation interactive quiz assignment   Day 5: Evaluation- to measure the understanding of the students. Peer- sharing Self-assessment Teacher- assessment Presentation of Grades Making reflection
