Fractions in Algebraic Equations

Cross Multiplying Needed when Equation has fractions on BOTH sides. To solve, you multiply the diagonals.

To solve with Cross-Multiplication 3 multiplied by x is 3x 4 multiplied by 6 is 24 Set the two products equal to each other.

Solving with Cross-Multiplication 7x = 28 x = 4

Practice with Cross-Multiplication On a half sheet of paper, solve for x. 1) 3) 2)

. Fraction on One Side = 16 x = Opposite of multiplying by a fraction, is dividing by the fraction. To divide by a fraction, multiply by the reciprocal. You can cross-cancel . = 16 x =
