What is pornography? How is it defined? Pornography is defined as- “sexually ‘explicit’ writings, images still or motion pictures and similar products designed to sexually arousing.” How is it defined? Miller v. California (1973)- importance when considering if something is pornographic--3 conditions average person applying “community” standards considers the material as a whole to appeal to prurient interests (community standards of decency) 2. material depicts sexual conduct, specifically defined by state or federal law, in a patently offensive way 3. works lacks serious artistic, literary, political, or scientific value. (redeeming social value)
