Challenges/Rationale Health System Challenges High attrition rates along the HIV care cascade High rates of virological failure Services may not be ‘adolescent-friendly’ Lack of integrated services Inadequate staff trained in managing adolescents’ needs Age of consent to HIV test (16 years) Patient-related challenges Stigma and discrimination Present with psychosocial, sexual and reproductive health issues High prevalence of teenage pregnancies School-going adolescents have challenges in accessing health services
