There are 7 Steps to the Interview Process Practice Research Get Ready Be on Time Stay Calm Show what you know Follow up

#1 practice Practice saying out loud a 60 second elevator speech that answers the question “Tell Me About Yourself” Conduct a mock interview with a friend or family member to get comfortable answering questions on the spot Have a list of questions prepared to ask the interviewer. This shows your continued interest in the position and also allows you to have more time to shine with the interviewer

#2 Research Do your homework about the employer and the industry so you are ready for questions about the company. Compliment the company on their mission and work accomplished. Know the interviewer's name and use it during the job interview. Relate what you’ve learned and experienced to answer questions.

#3 Get Ready DRESS FOR SUCCESS Make sure your appearance is neat, tidy and appropriate for the type of business you are interviewing with  Bring copies of your resume and reference list Include a pen and paper for note taking. You can bring this with you into the interview

#4 Be on Time Map/GPS your route beforehand Make sure you allow time for traffic On time means fifteen minutes early If need be, travel the route ahead of time to make sure you are comfortable with where you are going Bring funds for parking lots/parking meters

#5 Stay Calm Remember that your body language says as much about you as your answers to the questions Proper preparation will allow you to exude confidence Take a moment to regroup. It’s okay to have silence in the interview while you gather your thoughts Maintain eye contact with the interviewer Listen to the entire question before you answer and pay attention

#6 Show What You Know When discussing your career accomplishments match them to what the company is looking for  Use examples from your experience Use examples from what you’ve learned about the company Use the SAR Model

Sar Model S = Situation A = Action R = Results “An organization I used to work with was having an unusually high rate of complaints and negative feedback about their experience with customer service…” A = Action “I had personally noticed that some of the customer service associates were not asking additional questions that could give the customer more information to really get to the meat of the problem. So I…” R = Results “After we had implemented the new questioning and verification procedure, we saw the…”
