PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED, 2010 Intro: Make a list of different cars and trucks that you can think of. Rank them in order from “best” to “worst”. Mark number 1 as the best and so on. Why did you make those choices? Be ready to share with the class! 2 PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED, 2010

What can you do with a truck that you can’t do with a car What can you do with a truck that you can’t do with a car? What can you do with a camper van that you can’t do with a car?

File Extension – the type of file (ex. .doc) A filename extension is a suffix to the name of a computer file applied to indicate the encoding convention (file format) of its contents.

TIF – Tagged Image File Format Lossless file format for storing images. Lossless – does not lose any information after being saved over and over again like a JPEG.

JPEG – Joint Photographic Experts group A photo of a flower compressed with successively more lossy compression ratios from left to right. A commonly used method of lossy (loses information after being saved) compression for photographic images. Most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images.

GIF - Graphics Interchange Format Supported by most web browsers. Supports transparency and animation. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/70/Rotating_earth_%28small%29.gif

PSD – PhotoShop Document The .PSD (Photoshop Document), Photoshop's native format, stores an image with support for most imaging options available in Photoshop (filters, masks, etc.). This is in contrast to many other file formats (e.g. .EPS or .GIF) that restrict content to provide streamlined, predictable functionality.

RAW - variety of image files used by digital Variety of image files used by digital cameras containing the unprocessed data from the sensor. Canon - .CR2 Nikon - .NEF

PPI – pixels per inch PPI – screen resolution, in pixels, of an image to be printed within a specified space.

DPI – pixels per inch Good quality photographs usually require 300 dots per inch when printed, although professional photographs are usually printed at a higher number of dots per inch. DPi – Print PPi - Screen
