Glide Reflections and Compositions

Vocabulary Glide Reflection – a transformation that combines a translation and a reflection as long as the line of reflection is parallel to the direction of the translation, it does not matter whether you glide first and then reflect, or reflect first then glide

8 up 2 6 7 6 7 2 -2 6 -7 6 -7 2

Translation: (x,y)(x+4, y) Reflection: in the x-axis (8, 2) (4, -2) (8, -2)

Translation: (x,y)(x, y-6) Reflection: in the y-axis (4, -2) (-4, -8) (4, -8)

Vocabulary Composition – two or more transformations are combined to produce a single transformation

2 4 5 2 2 -4 5 -2

Does the order in which the transformations are completed affect the final image? Reflection: in x-axis Rotation: 90º clockwise about P

180 x + 6 y + 1

Translation: x,y)(x+7, y) Reflection: in the x-axis Rotation: 180° clockwise about the origin Reflection: in the line x=6
