Plant a leaf, save a life By Shelby Hawkins Acts of creation are ordinarily reserved for gods and poets. To plant a pine, one only need own a shovel. Aldo Leopold

Fast Facts Over a 50-year lifetime, a tree generates $31,250 worth of oxygen, provides $62,000 worth of air pollution control, recycles $37,500 worth of water, and controls $31,250 worth of soil erosion. One mature tree can give off enough oxygen each year to support two humans. One tree shading a house can save up to fifteen forest trees a year Trees extend life of street pavement, and studies show also have a calming effect on drivers, making them drive better. It also makes a street look narrower, causing most drivers to subconsciously slow down. Trees are absorbing less C02 as the world warms, so the time to plant is now!

Proposal We should set up a little table outside busy places such as the North Shoppes, Walmart, and Hyvee Ask for donations to purchase trees We could even tell KQ2 or the newspaper to spread the word

Clean Air Trees lower overall air temp. Produce Oxygen, Remove C02, Reduce need for fossil fuels Help keep rivers and streams clean by holding down soil and reducing polluted runoff Keeps soil healthy

Beauty Trees are pretty! They attract songbirds and butterflies Increase property value

The Chainsaw Massacre About 27 million more acres of trees are cut down each year than are planted.

Possible Trees (Out of hundreds available) Crab, Prairifire Flowering School Color! Sweetgum, American Magnolia, Star Dogwood, Red Cloud Crabapple, Snowdrift Linden, Silver

Price About $6-$11 depending on tree from arborday.com We could call our town garden supply stores and see if they are willing to donate or give us discounts We could vote on what types of trees we want to plant!

Why else should we do this? Gives us a chance to interact with people, and be outside! Easy Non-expensive Best of all-we get to play in the dirt!
