Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers: promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments. Examples: An example of this would be my brochure would be where I give students the freedom in developing their brochure, and making it as creative as they would like. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers: design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching. Examples: An example of this standard would be my wiki as a whole. It demonstrates how I can use technology in many different aspects of my teaching. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers: advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources. address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources. promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information. develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools. Examples: In order to promote digital citizenship and responsibility in my students I must promote it in my own work. Examples: Using a wiki and developing my plans over the wiki will show my growth and leadership in my professional career. I will continue to develop ideas and show my knowledge of technology on my wiki. I will pay attention to what my district is doing with technology and make sure to promote it. In order to promote technology I must know the technology, so I will make sure I am always attending conferences where I can gain new knowledge and new technology. Creativity and Innovation Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Students: apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes. create original works as a means of personal or group expression. use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues. identify trends and forecast possibilities. Examples: The students created mind map that can be found on my wiki. This is an example of my students showing creativity and innovation. They are sorting out information and learning all while using technology. Using technology is a good way for students to sort out information. Communication and Collaboration Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students: interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media. communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats. develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures. contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems. Examples: An example of students communicating and collaborating would be their book they created in class. They had a whole unit on creating a book in which they wrote it and developed it in many different forms. They worked with other students to figure out any problems they may have had. Research and Information Fluency Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Students: plan strategies to guide inquiry. locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media. evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks. process data and report results. Examples: An example of my students using technology to gather and evaluate, and use technology, would again be my mind map, which is seen on my wiki. Here they are processing information and using technology which is appropriate to the assignment. Another example of students using technology for information fluency would be would be the digital any Web 2.0 tools we use in the classroom. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Students: identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation. plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project. collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/or make informed decisions. use multiple processes and diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions. Examples: When my students are creating their digital story at the end of the unit they must use problem solve to figure out problems that occur as they are finishing their projects. They must critically think about what they are doing and who they should go about completing the task. They can figure out numerous ways to complete what they need to. Digital Citizenship Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Students:   advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology. exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity. demonstrate personal responsibility for lifelong learning. exhibit leadership for digital citizenship. Examples: When students are creating any technology in class, all which can be seen in my unit plan on my wiki, they must display digital citizenship. They must show their responsibility for using the internet and different technology, and they must also show a positive attitude when being introduced to all technology used in the unit plan. Technology Operations and Concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Students:   understand and use technology systems. select and use applications effectively and productively. troubleshoot systems and applications. transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies. Examples: An example of students understand technology would be in both the brochure and newsletter they make in class, as well as the podcast they created. They are transferring their knowledge or book genres, and their books into making technology. They will understand the technology and be able to troubleshoot any problems they have. 10 WI Teacher Standards (1-3) 1. Teachers know the subjects they are teaching. The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the disciplines she or he teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for pupils. 2. Teachers know how children grow. The teacher understands how children with broad ranges of ability learn and provides instruction that supports their intellectual, social, and personal development. 3. Teachers understand that children learn differently. The teacher understands how pupils differ in their approaches to learning and the barriers that impede learning and can adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with disabilities and exceptionalities. Examples: I plan to teach language arts and my unit plan demonstrates that I know the subject I plan to teach (Standard 1). I am giving my students choice throughout the unit and letting the students work at their own pace, but I am available to help any students, which shows my knowledge of how children grow and learn differently (Standard 2 &3). 10 WI Teacher Standards (4-6) 4. Teachers know how to teach. The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies, including the use of technology, to encourage children's development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills. 5. Teachers know how to manage a classroom. The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation. 6. Teachers communicate well. The teacher uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques as well as instructional media and technology to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom. Examples: Using my wiki shows that I know how to communicate well, as it will be available for both students and parents to reference throughout the year (Standard 6). I have all my students working independently and motivating themselves. They are interactive and social, but completing their project on their own which shows my knowledge that I can manage a classroom (Standard 5). 10 WI Teacher Standards (7-10) 7. Teachers are able to plan different kinds of lessons. The teacher organizes and plans systematic instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, pupils, the community, and curriculum goals. 8. Teachers know how to test for student progress. The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the pupil. 9. Teachers are able to evaluate themselves. The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on pupils, parents, professionals in the learning community and others and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally. 10. Teachers are connected with other teachers and the community. The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support pupil learning and well-being and acts with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner. Examples: My unit plan with the incorporation of all the different types of technology shows that I can plan many different kinds of lessons (Standard 7). My planned rubrics and my knowledge of how to make a rubric, shown on my rubric page, shows that I know how to evaluate and assess my students during the unit plan (Standard 8). This PowerPoint serves as a good example of me evaluating myself. I am looking at all the standards and seeing what I have learned and done in this class and how I am meeting the standards (Standard 9). Completing my wiki and having it available for public viewing shows that I am open to other teachers and the community. Also throughout the class I have been reading articles on how teachers are using these technologies in the class, which is also connecting me to the community (Standard 10).
