Patent A patent is an exclusive right granted by a country to an inventor, allowing the inventor to exclude others from making, using or selling his or her invention in that country during the life of the patent.

Global Innovation Index (GII) GII is an annual ranking of countries by their capacity for, and success in, innovation and is published by Cornell University, INSEAD, and the World Intellectual Property Organization, in partnership with other organisations and institutions Innovate performance of 127 countries in 81 indicators including political environment, education, infrastructure and business sophistication.

Discussion and Conclusions From the data we can see that we lack to a considerable extant in comparison to others in applying for patents and obtaining patents. Out of such low level of applications, it is understood that about 85% of applications are from foreign Nationals.

What is lacking with us? We are, We have, A nation with 1.31 billion population 850 million below 35 years 28 is the median age We have, Over 700 universities, Over 3000 engineering colleges, Second largest in Producing engineers per year? Produce over 24,000 PhDs per year Still very much lagging in innovation output, Need to introspect and reach global standards?
