RAINFALL. Rainfall refers to the amount of rain that an area receives over a period of time Rainfall is necessary to provide us with our supply of water.
The Hydrosphere. The hydrosphere is all of the Earth’s water – both fresh and salt. Water covers about 70% of the surface of the Earth. Of this water.
What’s the difference? Climate? Weather? Hot Cold Wet Dry Wind
Seconds left: The Sun warms the Earth, which warms the air around it, causing the air.
Water in the atmosphere Chapter 12 What is water vapour? Water vapour is a gas. The amount of water vapour in the air is called Humidity. The highest.
Climate Factors. Climate Average weather conditions of a region, or the weather patterns that occur over many years.
A Storm’s Story (So far…) The Sun warms the Earth through radiation. The Earth’s surface warms unevenly. Different types of air masses are created over.
Weather - Precipitation. Precipitation RECALL… As air goes up, it cools down! As air cools down, water (vapour) condenses more than it evaporates!

Learning Objective To explain the climate of the rainforest What is the difference between weather and climate? In pairs discuss what it would feel like to be in the rainforest Can you describe humid?

Dress for the climate

Over to you Using the fact sheets you are going to teach each other about rainfall and temperature. Together these make up the climate of the rainforest. You have 20 minutes to prepare your presentation – make sure each team member has a role!

Latitude and Temperature

Precipitation Stage 1. The sun heats the ground causing water to evaporate from the ground and vegetation to form water vapour. This warm, moist air rises. Stage 2. As the air rises it cools and water vapour condenses to form clouds. Stage 3. When the condensation point is reached large cumulonimbus clouds are formed. Stage 4. Heavy rain storms occur

Amazon Climate Graph Temperature Rainfall (mm) (ºC) 20 22 24 26 28 30 32 Rainfall (mm) Amazon Climate Graph Which month has the highest rainfall? Which month has the lowest temperature?

Discuss What would happen to the rainforest if the temperature rose and the rainfall dropped? Is this likely? How can we prevent this from happening?
