RADIOLOGICAL AND HISTOPATHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES OF BREAST CANCER PATIENTS IN HOSPITAL SERDANG Lim SN.1, Nuratika B.1, Suraini M.S.2, Norafida B.2 1Second Year Medical Student,Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Putra Malaysia. 2Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Putra Malaysia Introduction Breast cancer is the most common cancer among female but the incidence of breast cancer in young women is low. There are limited study of breast cancer in this age group in Malaysia while there are conflicting data regarding the prognosis for these women compared to older patients. This study is to describe the common features presented by breast carcinoma on ultrasound findings for women who aged above and below 40 years and different races and to study the association between age and ultrasound findings; between age and clinical pathological findings. Methodology Patients with breast carcinoma, who were identified in the database, were divided into two age groups (ages below 40, ages 40 and above). Histological and ultrasound findings on the breast carcinoma were obtained and analysed using frequency tables while association was studied using Chi square test or Fisher’s exact test with‘p’ value of <0.05 (95% confidence interval) is considered to be statistically significant. Discussion Age has no impact on type of tumour, tumour histologic grade, oestrogen receptor and progesterone receptor [1]. There is no significant association between age group and HER2 receptor [2]. There is also no significant association between age group and erbB2 receptor and this finding is in contrast with the study conducted in Italy [3].The difference may be due to the difference between Western and Asian country (Italy and Malaysia) and genetic variant. Age has no impact on any of ultrasound findings of breast carcinoma [4]. Common features Grade II DCIS high grade Stage 2 Tumour size 2 Lymph node positive No metastasis Result 205 patients were included in this study. Invasive ductal carcinoma is the most common carcinoma across all age groups and ethnic groups. Younger age group are more likely to be in stage 3. and progesterone negativity. However, majority of tumours are positive with oestrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, HER2 receptor and erbB2 receptor. There is no difference of common ultrasound findings in both age groups. There is no association between age group and any histological findings. There is also no association between age group and any ultrasound findings except quadrant. Figure 1 Common Histopathological findings Conclusion & Recommendation Younger and older age group have the similar feature of breast carcinoma except for younger age group has higher percentage of later stage and progesterone negativity. There is no significant association between age group and any histological features and receptors of breast carcinoma. We would like to suggest to other researchers to extend their research to the other hospital which is well known as referral centre of breast cancer such as Hospital Putrajaya and conduct research which focuses more on younger age group.
