Food processing – using local and imported products • Sugar refining - Tongaat-Hulett refinery in Tongaat and the export terminal at Durban harbour. • Chemicals - Break-of-bulk industries produce paint, toiletries and pharmaceuticals from imported raw materials, eg. Unilever and AECI makes fertilizer and explosives. Rayon – a fine silk-like fibre made from wood, used for making clothes • Pulp and Paper - Mondi (Durban, Richards Bay) and • SAPPI-SAICOR (South of Durban)
