Plate Boundaries Write on the RIGHT Side

Plate Boundaries There are 3 types of plate boundaries Convergent Boundaries Divergent Boundaries Transform Boundaries

Convergent Boundaries (Pg. 96) Form where 2 plates collide Subduction: one plate goes underneath another and back down into the asthenosphere

Convergent Boundaries When 2 continental plates collide it can cause the land to buckle causing mountains to form When continental and oceanic plates collide, it causes the ocean to subduct When 2 Oceanic plates collide, the more dense plate subducts

Divergent Boundaries 2 Plates moving away from each other **Remember** This allows magma from the asthenosphere to rise up through the lithosphere New, less dense rock sits on top and pushes older rock away forming mid-ocean ridges

Transform Boundaries When 2 plates move past each other horizontally (Not smoothly) Scrape against each other in a series of sudden slippages This causes earthquakes
