DISCUSSION TWELFTH NIGHT

CLIMAX The climax of a play or another narrative work, such as a short story or a novel, can be defined as the turning point at which the conflict begins to resolve itself for better or worse, the final and most exciting event in a series of events.

CLIMAX 1. The climax of Twelfth Night occurs, according to the first definition, when Olivia claims to love Cesario (Viola). 2. According to the second definition, the climax occurs in the final act when twins Viola and Sebastian establish their true identities.

LITERARY DEVICES Find the Figurative Language Come away, come away, death,  And in sad cypress let me be laid;  Fly away, fly away breath;  I am slain by a fair cruel maid. (2.4 55) (Hint: there are 4) Feste speaks a personification and an apostrophe when he addresses death, an alliteration with sad cypress, and an oxymoron with fair cruel maid. (Options: Simile, Metaphor, Alliteration, Personification, Oxymoron, Hyperbole, Onomatopoeia, Apostrophe)

In a paradox, Viola says concealment of love reveals it. LITERARY DEVICES She never told her love,  But let concealment, like a worm i’ the bud,  Feed on her damask cheek: she pined in thought,  And with a green and yellow melancholy  She sat like patience on a monument,  Smiling at grief. Was not this love indeed? (2.4.96-101) (Hint: there are 3) In a paradox, Viola says concealment of love reveals it. In similes, she compares concealment to a worm and patience to a monument. In a metaphor, she compares melancholy to an object that is green and yellow.

What is the rhyme scheme of this stanza? LITERARY DEVICES Rhyme Scheme What is the rhyme scheme of this stanza? O mistress mine! where are you roaming? O! stay and hear; your true love’s coming,  That can sing both high and low:  Trip no further, pretty sweeting;  Journeys end in lovers meeting,  Every wise man’s son doth know.
