GIS In Cadastral Management Paper Parcels Difficult to distribute. Difficult to “search”. No query capabilities. Easy maintenance.

Digital Parcel Data CAD CAD – Digital map production, but no query or analysis capabilities. Time Costs

Digital Parcel Data CAD / GIS GIS – Digital Map production, web services, query and analysis and more… Contractor Support In-House Management Staff Training Time Costs

A GIS provides the Representation, Storage, Display and Visualization, Query, and Analysis of spatial and non-spatial data. GIS applications serve a role in all industries. GIS applications can be built by Subject Matter Experts and used by people at all skill levels. What is GIS ? Geographic – The “Where” or Location. Information – The “What” or Description. System – The things that make it work!

Geographic – The “Where” or Location Spatial Data is stored in various formats through a variety of methods. Raster –Continuous Data, Pixels, Cells or Grids Elevation, Weather jpg, .sid, .tif, Vector – Discreet Data Points, Lines, Polygons Survey Marker, Roads, Parcels ! Shapefiles, Geodatabases

Information – The “What” or … Description Information – or Attribute data is stored with the GIS Data as part of the spatial features. Attribute data – Data directly part of a spatial dataset. Text Data Numeric Data Dates Database, or Tables – Data separate from spatial data, but relatable to a spatial dataset.

System – The things that make it work! People! the Public, Mappers, Assessors, Realtors, GIS Analysts, Appraisers, Workflow Methods used to collect, process, use and distribute data Hardware Computers, GPS, Networks, Printers, etc… Software ArcGIS ArcMap, AutoCAD Map, Q-GIS, etc… Data Parcel Data, Reference Data, Cloud Services Data, etc…

Representation: Real world phenomena into a digital environment. The ability to describe the real world object or place both by location and space and its descriptive, quantitative and qualitative features.

Data Stores A GIS provides a structure for data storage. Data quality and validation tools enable a high level of confidence and integrity in data maintenance. Additional tools provide for historical analysis at the parcel level. Various data formats: Shapefiles Geodatabase Enterprise Geodatabase

Parcel Fabric ESRI Geodatabase Featuredataset Advanced Functionality and Tools for editing, storage and history.

Parcel Fabric A parcel fabric is made up of these elements: Parcel lines, which have different categories and store COGO dimensions Parcel points, which store x,y,z coordinates that can be adjusted in a fabric adjustment Parcel polygons, which store area, parcel identification information, and are defined by parcel lines Line points, which constrain parcel points to lie on the boundaries of adjacent parcels Control points, which are used in a fabric adjustment and have accurate coordinates for a physical location Plans (table), which store information about the record of survey Parcel fabric jobs (table), which track edits to the parcel fabric Accuracies (table), which store weights that are used on parcels and lines a fabric adjustment Adjustment vectors (table), which store sets of displacement vectors from fabric adjustments
