Intercepts of Graphs x-intercept: the x coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the x axis y-intercept: the y coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the y axis

Example 1 Identify the x- and y-intercepts of the graph below.

Slope-Intercept Form

Graphing Put equation into slope-intercept form. Plot the y intercept. Move from the y intercept according to the slope. Move up or down according to the numerator (positive means up, negative means down) Move to the right according to the denominator (not left!) Draw a line through the points.
