Silver Carpet your bedroom!

You need to carpet your bedroom You are going to use carpet tiles for your bedroom because they are easy to fit. You need to use interesting patterns to make it look good. You can easily cut the tiles into 2 identical triangles or other interesting shapes or leave the squares whole The shapes must tessellate (no gaps) You have a budget of £100

Possible tessellation patterns

Shopping List Carpet tiles Carpet adhesive What other information will we need? A Plan of the floor area we need to carpet The size of each tile The quantity of glue we need

Floor Plan Estimate the size of your room and draw a floor plan on squared paper (1cm square will represent 50cm) Or Use the plan provided Adhesive You need 1 litre of adhesive Carpet Tile Sizes. Each carpet tile is 50cm square

Decide on your tessellation (pattern) Window Decide on your tessellation (pattern) Draw the pattern to scale on the plan Calculate the number of tiles you need of each colour Door Scale : 1:50

You need 1 litre of adhesive, work out the cheapest

You need 1 litres of adhesive, work out the cheapest You need 1 pack Cost £7.49 + £3.99 = £12.48 You need 3 packs Cost £4.25 x 3 = £12.75 You need 2 packs Cost (£2.49+£2) x 2 = £8.98

I would need 73 tiles if I used a tessellation made of squares. I have decided to make a 2 colour tessellation so I need 35 ½ tiles in each colour – I can’t buy half tiles so I need 36 white tiles and 36 black tiles Cost White tiles 36 x 82p = £29.52 Black tiles 36 x 82p = £29.52 Adhesive = £ 8.98 Total = £68.02 Window Door Scale : 1:50
