British Values Statement Radwinter C of E Primary School Democracy Children, parents and staff have many opportunities for their voices to be heard at Radwinter. Democracy is central to how we operate. Pupil voice can be heard through our school, eco and worship councils. The children elect their class representatives and know that they can really make a difference. We use questionnaires to gain the views of pupils, parents, staff and governors. Children can nominate each other for a values in action award. Choice of extended learning opportunities. Children help to decide which charities they would like to raise money for. Individual Liberty Alongside rules and laws, we promote freedom of choice and the right to respectfully express views and beliefs. Through the provision of a safe, supportive environment and empowering education, we provide boundaries for our pupils to make choices safely; for example: choices about what learning challenge or activity, choices about how they record their learning. choices around the participation in extra-curricular activities. This is achieved via: Collective worship, PSHE and e-safety sessions. year 6 children taking on roles around the school. Eco council looking after the school environment. British Values Statement Radwinter C of E Primary School We are committed to promoting key British values through our ethos and wider curriculum. We pride ourselves on our inclusive environment and ensure that ALL children are taught to understand, appreciate and respect diversity in order that they may relate to and embrace the world we live in at local, national and international levels. British values are central to all we do and are closely linked with our school core Christian values of Respect, Fairness, Forgiveness, Service and Kindness. Mutual Respect As one of our school values Respect underpins our ethos and everything we do at Radwinter. Our pupils know and understand that it is expected and imperative that respect is shown to everyone, whatever differences we may have. Children learn that their behaviour choices have an effect on their own rights and those of others. This is done via: Anti bullying policy School behaviour policy PSHE curriculum Collective worships celebrating differences and promoting equality. Links with a school in Africa (Vision Africa). Play leaders who set examples of how to play fairly and promote equality. Competitive sports. Discussing differences between people during charity events. Visits to places of worship as part of our R.E. curriculum. Tolerance of those of other faiths and beliefs This is achieved through enhancing pupils understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience such diversity. R.E lessons and collective worship sessions give children opportunities to learn about a variety of different faiths. Our equality policy ensures everyone is valued and welcomed in our school regardless of faith or nationality. Languages day and multifaith weeks allow us to celebrate differences between countries and faiths. Celebrating different religious festivals from around the world. Charity work (including Vision Africa) Rule of Law Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves, and the consequences when laws are broken. All children are involved in setting their class rules at the beginning of the school year. Home School and e-safety agreements are signed by both pupils and parents. The local PSCO often visits school to talk to the children. Collective worship times are often used to remind the children of our school and wider rules and how they can keep us safe.
