The Redemptive Nature of Christ’s Earthly life

God’s saving plan is revealed through the Son, Jesus Christ It is understood with the guidance of the Holy Spirit It is understood through all of Jesus’ life and life activities: his prayer, poverty, humility, etc.

Christ’s Passion, death, Resurrection, and Ascension reveal his and his Father’s glory. These are the events that comprise the Paschal Mystery

The Luminous Mysteries In 2002, Pope John Paul II recommended at new set of mysteries to be added to the Rosary prayer Called the Luminous mysteries or mysteries of light Jesus clearly identified as the Messiah, the Savior, the Son of God, and “light of the world in these five mysteries

Kingdom of God Each of the luminous mysteries is a revelation of the Kingdom of God The Kingdom or Reign of God is the “place” where the fullness of God’s grace is present and humans are restored to full communion with God and one another. The culmination of God’s plan of salvation. The fullness of the Kingdom is found in Jesus.

The Baptism in the Jordan Found in all four Gospels Baptized by John John prepares the way for Jesus Beginning of Jesus’ public ministry

The Wedding at Cana John’s Gospel contains seven miracles Each miracle is a sign that reveals Jesus as Son of God Shows his power over Creation Recalls the time at the beginning of Christ’s public ministry

The Proclamation of the Kingdom Not a one time event. Proclaimed through many miracles and teachings. “The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

The Transfiguration Found in the three synoptic gospels There, he reveals his glory. Moses and Elijah appear with him. The Father stated, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” Moses represents the Law, Elijah the message of the prophets. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and the prophets.

The Institution of the Eucharist Found in the synoptic Gospels and in I Corinthians Implied in the Gospel of John Jesus institutes the Eucharist at the “Last Supper,” a Passover celebration meal. A remembrance and renewal of the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus becomes the Paschal Lamb, freeing humanity from sin and death.
