THE AIM to learn sports in Britain and Russia to find out what of them are popular now is there a similarity or a difference to learn what sports are popular among my schoolmates

ACTUALITY OF THE TOPIC Sport is the phenomenon of cultural life. Sport is a competitive activity and a special preparation for it. The healthy lifestyle has a wide positive impact on various parties of manifestation of an organism and the person’s identity.

The principle of British education was "A sound mind in a sound body". All schools take care of pupil’s physical training and provide them the choice from several sports. Schools play football, rugby or hockey in winter and cricket, tennis, swim in summer.

POPULAR SPORTS IN GREAT BRITAIN

FOOTBALL Football has a long history. Arose in England in the middle of the 19th century The most known English football clubs – Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea.

CRICKET is a traditional English game arose in the south of England in the 16th century the first test matches between national teams were played in the middle of the 19th century

RUGBY appeared at the beginning of the nineteenth century in England the game is named after school of Rugby

GOLF a game existed in the 14th century in Scotland it was prohibited in the 15th century a game was arranged in the 19th century

HORSE RACING appeared in England the queen comes to watch it the first descriptions are dated 1000th year B.C. - in India a rebirth of races is connected with England

POPULAR SPORTS IN RUSSIA

HOCKEY arose in Canada was especially popular in Holland in 16-17 centuries birthday of hockey in Russia is on December 22, 1946

VOLLEYBALL the original name for the sport was "Mintonette" arose in the USA in 1895 the inventor of volleyball is W.G.Morgan

FIGURE SKATING arose in Holland in 12-14 centuries the skates were brought to Russia by Peter I from the European countries. in our country this game arose in 1865

RHYTHMIC GYMNASTIC Russia is the homeland of rhythmic gymnastics it is our gift to the Olympic Movement was opened in 1934 in the UUSR since 1984 it is the Olympic sport

POPULAR SPORTS among my classmates 22 pupils of 6B class took part in a questioning. Analyzing the results it is possible to tell the following. 59% of pupils know that is rugby, 41% of them don’t know. 18% of my classmates know what cricket is, and 82% don’t know. 64% of respondents consider that the most popular sport in Russia is football, 13,5% - hockey, 9% - skiing, 9% don't know, 4,5% volleyball. 32% of respondents consider the most popular sport in Great Britain is rugby, 9% - soccer, 59% - don't know. The hobbies of my schoolmates are following - 18% of respondents play football, 27% - volleyball, 9% do figure skating, 18% aren't fond of sport, 9% have noted that they play both football and volleyball, another 18% of pupils have told that their interests in sport are various – volleyball, hockey and figure skating at the same time. 36,5% of pupils consider that the football is popular both in Russia, and in Great Britain, 9% think that this is rugby, 54,5% can't answer the question. the most popular sport in 6B form is volleyball, on the second place is football.

Conclusion there is both a similarity and a difference between sports in Great Britain and Russia Football is the most popular sport in both countries The most popular sports in Great Britain are football, cricket, rugby, golf and horse racing The most popular sports in Russia are football, hockey, volleyball, figure skating and rhythmic gymnastics The most popular sport in my form is volleyball

Conclusion My research maintains interest in learning of foreign language It awakens curiosity to investigate other fields of regional geography. I have a dream to make a trip to England and to observe peculiar and fascinating sports as cricket, rugby, croquet and golf.
