Murrieta Mesa Instrumental Music 2013 Find Your Passion! Murrieta Mesa Instrumental Music 2013

Pathway / Performance Choices The Mesa Instrumental Music Department offers two main pathway choices for you: Marching Band and Full Orchestra.

At Murrieta Mesa High School, our main instrumental pathway has been divided into two main pathways options. The Marching Band, also known as the award winning Marching Emerald Regiment, and our districts only Full Orchestra program known as our Honors / Community Orchestra. These courses have UC approved class times in the school day and include afterschool, weekend, and overnight trips. Placement into these courses is by director permission with a placement audition and / or interview. Students may participate in these courses without being officially in the pathway program, but they are required to participate / enroll in the pathway courses. From these groups, other performance ensembles are generated. They include: Color Guard, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, Musical Pit Orchestra, and more. Sound good so far? Let’s go into more detail . . .

The Marching Emerald Regiment Adv Concert Band 7202 (Winds, Some Perc.) Wind Symphony 7204 (All Competitive Perc.) Performance Cor 2750 (Color Guard) Adv Marching/Concert Band 7200 (9th period - All Band / Perc / Color Guard) - Evening / Afterschool / Weekend Competitions.

The Marching Emerald Regiment All students are enrolled in the day class, and are also enrolled in the evening course. The evening course does not effect their day class selections. It is graded. The day class practices the competition routines and turns into the concert band.

The Marching Emerald Regiment The 9th period is a graded course that in the fall covers all practices and competitions. In the winter, it covers pep-band, winter percussion and color guard, musicals, graduation, festivals, and more. Students must be enrolled in a day class to participate in the 9th period and / or competition group.

The Honors Orchestra Adv Concert Orchestra 7216 (All Strings, Winds, and Orchestra percussion. This is the only full orchestra day class. There will be after school sectionals / rehearsals and performances. Typically, these are on Mondays 5-7pm.

The Beginning Strings Concert Orchestra 7215 This is for students to learn a fast paced course on violin, viola, cello, and bass. Instruments are limited to what is available. While we have enough, it may not be your first choice.

Other Groups / Clubs Jazz Band Musical Pit Orchestra Winter Percussion Honors Orchestra

Other Groups / Clubs Jazz Band The Jazz Band is a club that is supported by the Marching Emerald Regiment and open to students enrolled in the program. It is not a class, but is an active performance group that is part of our family. Students must maintain their grades and standing in the MER to participate.

Other Groups / Clubs Musical Pit Orchestra The Musical Pit Orchestra is one of the most interesting and challenging musical experiences. Performing actual live Broadway music is an amazing opportunity. This is only available to a limited number of our top MER musicians that are in good standing and have demonstrated advanced skills.

Other Groups / Clubs Winter Percussion The Winter Percussion is open to all MER students that audition. It is supported by our program and is a highly competitive group that competes in the winter season. Think of it as a marching band with just drums on a gym floor! Students must be enrolled in a current band / percussion class.

Other Groups / Clubs Honors Orchestra The Honors Orchestra is also available for band students who are not able to take the additional class in the school day. If qualified, you may come to the afterschool practices and perform with the Honors Orchestra. So yes, you can have it all!

Placement into the right class – How does it work? 1). Sign up for the class you think will be the right “fit” for your child. 2). Attend the placement / training dates in April / May. 3). I will be able to adjust the classes based on the training and individual attention for each student.

Placement into the right class – How does it work? 4). If students do not show, without notice we have to assume they don’t want to be here and they will be dropped. 5). These days are fun, and a great way to get to know everyone before the summer even starts! 6). Orchestra students will also be placed

Placement into the right class – How does it work? 7). You don’t know until you try!! Dates: Tuesdays 8th grade training (Including Orchestra) April 16th, 23rd, 30th, May 7th . (6-8pm) Dates: Tuesdays Placement for ALL MER MEMBERS INCLUDING 8th GRADERS May 14th, 21st and 28th. (6-8pm) I will submit any changes to the office.
