Wireless USB

Introduction Wireless USB is short-range, high-bandwidth protocol for several technologies that utilize a computer's USB ports for wireless local networking.

What is Wireless USB? Wireless USB (WUSB) is a type of Universal Serial Bus technology that uses radio-frequency links rather than cables to provide the interfaces between a computer and its peripherals.

WUSB permits connections over distances up to 10 feet (3 meters) at 480 Mbps, or up to 33 feet (10 meters) at 110 Mbps. To ensure security, transmissions use encryption Like standard USB, the WUSB interface offers Plug and Play compatibility as well as the ability to hot swap hardware components. WUSB is backward compatible with conventional wired USB devices.

USES Wireless USB is used in Game Controllers, Digital Cameras, Portable Media Players,  Printers, Scanners, Hard disk drives and USB flash drives. It is also convenient for transferring parallel video streams, using USB over ultra-wideband protocols.

Wireless USB via UWB Wireless USB is the new wireless extension to USB that incorporate the speed and security of wired technology with the ease-of-use of wireless technology.

Wireless USB technology will support robust high-speed wireless connectivity by using the WiMedia MB-OFDM Ultra-wideband (UWB) common radio platform. Wireless USB can support data rates up to 480 Mbps (megabits per second).

Wi-Fi Wireless USB Adapters Essential for a high-quality Internet connection – WiFi adapters are designed to offer the best connections available. External Wi-Fi adapters commonly plug into the USB port of a computer. These adapters are casually called "wireless USB" although the protocol used for signalling is Wi-Fi.

Unlike broadband and satellite USB modems, which require special SIM cards and dedicated service providers,Wireless USB adapters can connect computers to wireless networks without additional tools or service expenses.  For e.g. Network speeds are limited accordingly; a USB adapter for 802.11g handles a maximum of 54 Mbps.
