MSE Radial Resolution with ‘Dirty’ Lens

MSE Radial Resolution with ‘Clean’ Lens FWHM about a factor 2-3 smaller. ‘Tails’ are reduced. Tried various fitting functions … settled on a spline

Actual magnetic Pitch-angle Degrees geometry Angle that MSE sees radius

The Poor Spatial Resolution of the Dirty Lens Changes the Measured Field-Line Pitch Angle by up to ~0.5 degrees.

There is Little Difference in Inferred Pitch-Angle between a Local And a Radially-averaged MSE Measurement with a Clean Lens

Measured MSE Light is the Convolution of the Diagnostic Response (spatial resolution) and MSE Emission Intensity Profile At edge: emission intensity weighted to inside of viewing region. At center: emission intensity weighted to outside of viewing region. Beam-into-gas: emission intensity weighted to outside of viewing region.
