Solving Equations involving Fractions Objective: Learn to solve equations involving fractions.

When solving equations: Write an equation. “Undo” the subtraction or addition, by doing the opposite to both sides of the equal sign. Cancel the opposites. Then follow the adding and subtracting fraction rules. Simplify

Examples: D + 1 = 5 4 6 W – 3 = 1 5 3 B – 9 = 3 10 5

Solving Equations when Multiplying Fractions Write the equation. “Undo” the multiplication by multiplying the reciprocal to both sides of the equal sign. Cancel the opposites. Then follow the multiplying fraction rules. Simplify

Examples: 2 X = 50 7 20 = 1 Y 3 3 K = 16 8
