PROJECT MANAGEMENT Idea Reality Impact

Project Management Cycle Plan Do Review

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. PLANNING STAGE If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

First, ASK yourself: Why do you want to do it? Do it for the right reasons. Is it aligned to your organizational goals? Is it aligned to your strengths? How will you measure your success? Are you the right people for the job? When shall you do it? Are you willing to sacrifice time and resources?

Vision: What will success look like? SMART Goals Milestones Begin with end in mind Vision: What will success look like? SMART Goals Milestones Shar- goals

Contingency. What could go wrong?

IMPLEMENTATION STAGE

Communication & Monitoring The world of no reply. What will you do? What is the best approach? THINK- email them DO- call them DECIDE- meet with them

Team Management Group vs Team Treat everyone differently. Piedays.

Reality Check A long term project has ups and downs, and things could get rough. How will you continue to motivate yourself to work on your project?

Delegation Don’t just give task, explain it. Clarify the deadline. Know the right person for the right task.

Be sexy! It’s your job to make them aware of your project, no matter how amazing it is. Know your audience. Use the right channels (TV, radio, print, social media)

The Elevator Pitch 30 seconds

EVALUATION

Remember: Thank you notes (personalized) Recognize your volunteers “Your team don’t stay involved because they love meeting deadlines or reporting. They stay involved because they feel that they are making a difference, that they are valued, and that they are getting something out of their hard work.” Notes of experience

Challenge for Changemakers Charity is dead. How can you become sustainable? Instead of just doing an event, how will you build a community? In an age where NGOs and foundations are doing pretty much the same things, how can you be more strategic in your work?
