HOW TO BE A SUCESsful STUDENT By: Henver Bio

DO YOUR HOMEWORK RIGHT AWAY! In 8th grade there will be more tests, bigger textbooks, which means more homework! Improving your time-management skills is key. Do your own homework, take responsibility on your own work, don’t copy off your friends. If you are having trouble in class, ask your teacher for help. Reduce screen time. Phones, television, and video games. Don’t text your friends, watch TV, or play games once your home work is done.

TRY TO GET A PERFECT ATTENDANCE! Try and aim for a perfect attendance to every class. You need to be present in class for you to learn new things. Every time you skip class, or cant show up on time, you risk missing an important lesson. If you miss a class be sure to make up for what you’ve missed. Ask a friend to catch you up on what you’ve missed.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! Get plenty of rest. It get’s even busier in high school. If you are having troubles sleeping, turn off all screens 15-30 mins before bed. Get regular exercise. Exercise reduces stress, boosts brain function, and also improves your mood. Head out and bike with your friends. Eat well, and healthy. Eating healthy helps memory, and concentration.

READ! You must get used to the amount of reading in high school. You will be asked to read bigger and more difficult novels, math, science, socials, and English textbooks. Start to read a little bit each night so you can get used to it faster. Look up words you don’t know. Taking the time to look up these words will help you understanding the book, and also building your vocabulary.

TAKE NOTES! Ask your teacher to repeat what you missed. Write the date at the top of the sheet, also the heading of the subject. Write down key facts and dates. Don’t worry about writing down complete sentences, it’ll improve your abbreviations and shortcuts. Compare your notes with a classmate. You might find some things you and your classmate haven’t found.

KEEP TRACK OF YOUR GRADES! Keep track of your grades. To get an A, you will have to get a 90% or more. Your teachers can breakdown of the points from classwork, homework, tests, and maybe participation. Every time you get your work back, record your mark on a blank piece of paper. Review your work and try and make improvements, if you need to.

DEVELOP YOUR TEST-TAKING SKILLS! Listen to the instructions your teacher gives before you start the test. Be sure to leave enough time to finish your test, stop looking at the clock, because it’ll cause more stress. When you’re done your test, make sure to double check your answers. Relax when you take the test.

Study! If you want to do great in 8th grade, you will need to study. Create time and space for studying. Spend 10-15 mins reviewing the things you’ve learned that day. Spend 30-40 mins on urgent assignments. Spend 10-15 mins on test and assignments that aren’t due for a while.

USE A PLANNER! Use a planner to keep track of homework. Write down: Exams Quizes Tests Major assignments Daily homework And reading

STAY ORGANIZED! Make sure you have the right school supplies. Before the start of the year, you will be given a list of the supplies you will need for the school year. Have a folder only for your homework. Write in your planner to keep up with homework and upcoming tests. Have a separate notebook and folder for each subject. Create a cyber folder at home so you can save school work on your computer.
