Presentation transcript:

Compare and Order Decimals *We will know how to compare and order decimals by looking at the digits in each place value position, OR by using a number line.

Which is greater, 0.5 or 0.25? Line up decimal points Remember line up decimal point Line up decimal points Starting at the left, compare the digits in each place-value position. 0.5 is greater than 0.25 0.50 0.25

Which is greater, 0.5 or 0.25? Use a number line. Graph each number. On a number line, numbers to the RIGHT are greater than numbers to the LEFT. Therefore, 0.5 is greater than 0.25.

Look to the left and move until different digits Guided Practice Look to the left and move until different digits Compare the decimals. Use <, >, or = to make the statements true. Remember, the alligator needs to eat the bigger number. 0.45 0.88 0.6 0.06 0.153 0.2 23.16 23.1600 < > < =

Order from least to greatest. Line up decimals. 0.3 0.520 0.08 Compare from the left until the digits are different. 0.08 0.3 0.520 0.3 0.520 0.08 OR, graph on a number line.

Order from least to greatest. Make sure decimal points are lined up Line up decimals. 0.825 0.07 0.25 Compare from the left until the digits are different. 0.07 0.25 0.825 0.825 0.07 0.25 OR, graph on a number line.
