How We Use Plants

Food Fruits After the flower dies a fruit will come. Fruits have seeds and we eat then for food. Vegetables Vegetables are the leaf, root and stem of the plant. Cabbages are full of vitamins and minerals. Vegetables don’t have seeds. Seeds Seeds make a new plant. usually found in fruits like apples, water melon and pear . We us seeds so we can eat them too like pumpkin seeds we cook them too eat.

Shelter Homes We use reeds and oak wood for homes. Oak wood can come from Canada. Makeshift Shelters People use leaves and branches to make temporary shelters. Oak trees Oak wood is used for building ships and homes. It makes acorns which is food for animals like squirrels and pigs.

Making Everyday Things Rubber Latex is a kind of rubber. Latex sheets are left to dry in a village in Burma. If you break off a dandelion flower head, you will see a white liquid drip out of the broken end that’s latex. Bamboo We use bamboo for furniture, cooking baskets and clothing. Bamboo comes from Asia, Australia, North and South America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Fabrics Our clothes are made from a variety of natural plant fibers. Medicine and Health Healthy teeth Every time you eat, food is left on your teeth. The food is eaten by bacteria. Mint is used for toothpaste. Skin care There are many types of skin creams and soaps mostly by plants. For example, there are creams to prevent the skin from drying. Keeping clean It is important to wash your skin and hair and to brush your teeth. This helps the body to stay healthy.
