What are databases – and why should you use them? Databases are collections of published articles Find reliable information Databases provide information in known sources (like printed magazines and journals) Database content has undergone a review process, making the information more reliable than information found on the Internet Find relevant information Many ways to limit searches, including searching only article titles or limiting results to full-text articles Easy to cite sources!

How do I access databases? Edison Library website Click purple “LCPL Access Digital Resources” link Click blue “Learn Stuff” link Click “See All Databases” link (on left in orange area) Click on a databases link and log in using your LCPL Digital Access Card Use BARCODE as “Library Card Number” and DEFAULT PIN as “Personal Identification Number”

How do I use databases? Each database is slightly different Enter search terms as you would in a search engine Watch your spelling Vary your search terms and combinations of terms If possible, click “full text” option Look at article abstracts Click on articles to read them Citations are usually provided for you
