Expresiones de tiempo Expressions of time

Expressions of time The construction hace + amount of time + que + verb in the present tense is used to tell for how long an action has been going on. Hace tres meses que vivimos en este país. We have been living in this country for three months.

Expressions of time The construction hace + amount of time + (que +) verb in the past tense is used to tell how long ago something happened. Hace diez años, vivía en Chile. Ten years ago, I lived in Chile. Hace dos meses que vine a Chile. I came to Chile two months ago.

Expressions of time The phrase desde que followed by a verb in the past tense expresses (ever) since. Desde que ocurrió el accidente, somos más cuidadosos. Since the accident happened, we are more careful.

Expressions of time Ordinal numbers can be used with vez to explain how many times something has occurred. Es la tercera vez que hemos ganado el campeonato. This is the third time we’ve won the championship.
